Artist Statement

Whether you are the bird’s-eye view, the ant on a mango tree’s bark, or the warmth of a benevolent ray of sunlight, I strive to capture these precious moments with intricate, careful detail. My work is an ode to the natural world, inviting viewers to join me in protecting the earthly wonders I etch into wood, canvas, acrylics, and even cement. Birds, as symbols of freedom and resilience, inspire me deeply, and I hope my work encourages others to connect with life’s smaller details to appreciate the bigger picture. Each piece is an exploration, allowing my subjects to emerge organically. As a Dominican artist, my vision is to elevate my island’s art scene and inspire a deep, lasting connection to nature.

About

“We’re just passing through; I want to use my skills to help improve nature and the Dominican people and... make the world a better place.”

Born to Waitukubuli, Lowell “OMtNI” Royer grew up with a vivacious spirit to strive for his goals. Early in this life as an artist, OMtNI’s artistic spirit did not falter despite the initial doubts from people who did not share his vision as he made his decision to become an artist. However, encouraged by his late uncle and renowned Dominican artist, Earl Ettienne, OMtNI later studied art at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica where he made the tides of excellence his mantra. OMtNI then served as the President of the Waitukubuli Artist Association for six years where he made significant contributions to elevating the art scene from within the nation knitting a network of budding artists of all disciplines to collaborate and create.

Fused with the inspiration from the bountiful nature he surrounds himself with, OMtNI’s work is a dramatized reflection of the everyday world. A subject you will often see in his pieces is birds. These beings ultimately symbolize dedication and freedom to OMtNI soaring along beams of meticulously captured light rays. His knack for capturing light in a human lens has earned him the nickname “Light Bender”. Acrylics and wood are his preferred mediums, allowing him to capture textures and depths that bring his visions to life.

OMtNI’s creative process is both intuitive and meticulous. Ideas often strike him during everyday tasks, which he sketches into concepts and refines through dedicated practice. For him, creating art is about discovery, growth, and allowing the artwork to guide itself. Driven by his desire for constant improvement, he believes, “It’s okay not to know what you’re doing; that’s how you discover new things.”

Beyond his own creations, OMtNI forsees a thriving art scene in Dominica. He plans to create a print business that will couple both art and environmental consciousness. Passionate about fostering national pride and a love for nature, he hopes his legacy will inspire Dominicans to cherish and protect their environment, leaving a lasting impact on both art and conservation.

And when you hear the name OMtNI, know the ‘t’ is silent but the impact jubilant, boisterous and omnipresent in influence.
